Tom Cruise will return along with director Christopher McQuarrie for Mission Impossible 7 & 8
Variety revealed Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to write and direct the next two films in the popular film franchise. The sequels will be shot back-to-back "in order to take advantage of the popularity of the series," according to the trade. Cruise and McQuarrie later confirmed their involvement via Twitter, as well as the films' summer 2021 and 2022 release dates. Last year's Mission: Impossible – Fallout became the highest worldwide grossing entry in the franchise with $791 million, and it was one of the best reviewed films in the series (with a 97 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes).
