Film Synopsis
Jojo is a lonely German boy who discovers that his single mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend -- Adolf Hitler -- Jojo must confront his blind nationalism as World War II continues to rage on.
Video
Jojo Rabbit is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.85:1. The Blu-Ray provides very strong fine-object detail and crisp wide shots. The colors themselves are as vibrant and colorful as the film itself. Overall, this is a good-looking picture.
Audio
Jojo Rabbit features a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix that derives quite a bit of energy from its sometimes cheeky use of anachronistic music. Dialogue is rendered cleanly and clearly throughout, and there are no problems of any kind to note. There are not a ton of action effects, but gunfire, an exploding grenade and a few other wartime bursts of chaos rock the subwoofer and pan the surrounds. Overall, this is a great mix for a film such as this.
Special Features
Inside Jojo Rabbit is an featurette with some good interviews, if an at times kind of "arty" style.
Audio Commentary by Taika Waititi
Overall Reaction
Jojo Rabbit is an overall entertaining and occasionally moving film. It’s one of the best films in 2019. The video transfer and audio mix are both fantastic, and the special features are supremely entertaining. Recommended.
