Film Synopsis

After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), famed doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria's England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley, Wild Rose) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.

Video

Dolittle's 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD video presentation comes home with a gorgeous looking transfer. Blacks are absolutely spot on. Colors are dramatic. There are so many stand outs for color, that it’s hard to focus on just one.  All flesh tones appear natural and without any odd gradations.

Audio

Dolittle's Dolby Atmos soundtrack delivers impressive technical results. Dialogue sounds great and effects are placed throughout the sound field.  The 7.1 Dolby TrueHD (Atmos core) soundtrack makes effective use of the surround platform.

Special Features
 • Talk to the Animals: Downey, Jr. introduces some of the characters and the actors who voice them.

 • RDJ & Harry: Mentor and Mentee: The on- and off-screen relationship between the actors and their characters.

 • Becoming the Good Doctor: A more thorough, but still quick, exploration of Downey, Jr.'s character and performance as well as the qualities that drew him to the project.

 • Antonio Banderas: Pirate King: Like the previous supplement, a focus on Banderas' character, performance, and the world in which the character operates.

 • The Wicked Dr. Müdfly: Exploring Michael Sheen's character and on-screen work.

 • A Most Unusual House: Looking at the construction and furnishing of one of the film's primary set pieces.

Overall Reaction

Top notch Ultra HD video, engaging lossless surround sound, including a solid Dolby Atmos.  Worth a look to keep the family, and the little ones in particular, smiling through out.
